The Premier League table couldn't look any better for Arsenal fans
after they extended their lead to five points by beating second-placed
Liverpool.
First Santi Cazorla, and then in-form Aaron Ramsey with an absolute
stunner, scored the goals as the hosts outplayed their opponents from
start to finish.
Arsenal took the lead after twenty minutes with a quick counter-attack
which caught the Liverpool defenders napping. Bacary Sagna stormed up
the right and whipped in an inviting cross and Cazorla's thumping
header thudded into the post. The Spaniard was first to react to the
rebound, volleying home from close range.
Early in the second half Olivier Giroud had two big chances to extend
the host's lead but he chipped the first wide and then poked the next
straight at Wojciech Szczesny.
The Frenchman's misses proved to have no bearing on the result,
however, as Aaron Ramsey collected a Mesut Ozil pass and half-volleyed
from outside the box into the top corner. It was the Welshman's tenth
goal in all competitions this season.
